Turo Alternatives for Hosts (2026): What Actually Still Exists

Most "Turo alternative" lists still recommend platforms that no longer exist in the US. Getaround ended its US operations in February 2025 and HyreCar is gone, so for car hosts there is no second Turo to move to. What you actually have in 2026 is three options: niche marketplaces for RVs and motorcycles, your own direct-booking site, or both alongside Turo. This page lays out each one honestly, including where Turo is still the better deal.

This guide is written by the Fleetwire team, so read it with that in mind. We've kept it honest, including where another option is the better fit.

What Turo costs you in 2026

Turo pays hosts a share of each trip price based on the earnings plan you pick, and the share trades off against how much damage you carry yourself. These are the current US plans:

Turo earnings plan (US)Host share of trip priceDamage responsibility per incident
More peace of mind70%$250
Balanced80%$1,500
More earnings90%$2,750

So Turo keeps 10% to 30% of every trip, and the cheapest plan in fees is the one that leaves you exposed to $2,750 of damage per incident. Renters also pay Turo a trip fee on top of your price. Plug your own rate and plan into the Turo fee calculator to see the monthly difference.

1. Keep Turo and add your own booking site

This is what most hosts we talk to do, and it's the option we built Fleetwire for. Turo keeps finding new renters; your repeat customers, referrals and local search traffic book on your own branded storefront, where you keep the whole rental price minus card processing. Fleetwire imports your Turo trips so those dates block your storefront automatically (the sync is one way: direct bookings are not pushed to Turo, so block them there if a car is on both). Checkout verifies the renter's license with Stripe Identity and their insurance with Axle, holds the security deposit on their card, and collects an e-signed agreement before pickup.

Turo trips import onto the same calendar as your direct bookings and block those dates on your storefront.

The honest catch: on direct trips, insurance and renter screening are yours. Turo's protection doesn't follow the car off the platform. Our guide to taking direct bookings without quitting Turo covers insurance, pricing and staying inside Turo's rules.

2. Go fully direct

Some hosts drop marketplaces entirely once direct demand is steady. You keep every booking's margin and own every customer relationship, but you also replace Turo's traffic with your own: Google Business Profile, local search, social and repeat renters. Most hosts get there gradually through option 1 rather than in one jump.

3. A different marketplace, if you rent RVs or motorcycles

Outdoorsy and RVshare are the big marketplaces for RVs and camper vans, and Riders Share does the same for motorcycles. They're real alternatives for those vehicles. For cars they aren't, and they're still marketplaces that set the rules and take a cut. If Outdoorsy is your main channel, see our Fleetwire vs Wheelbase comparison; Wheelbase is Outdoorsy's own fleet software.

What happened to Getaround and HyreCar

Getaround ended its US operations in February 2025 and now runs only in Europe. HyreCar, which rented cars to rideshare drivers, has also shut down. Lists that still recommend either for US hosts are out of date.

Where Turo is still the better deal

Fair is fair:

  • Demand you don't have to find. If you have no repeat renters, no local presence and an empty calendar, Turo's traffic is worth its cut.
  • Insurance and claims are handled. Turo's plans include liability coverage and a claims process. On direct rentals you arrange and manage both yourself.
  • Trust from reviews. A new host gets instant credibility from Turo's review system. Your own site has to earn it.

That's why we suggest adding a direct channel rather than leaving. Our post on what a Turo host alternative should actually solve goes deeper on the booking workflow, and marketplace vs direct rentals covers when each one pays.

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Turo for car hosts?

For cars in the US there is no marketplace of Turo's size left: Getaround ended US operations in February 2025 and HyreCar shut down. The practical alternative is your own direct-booking website, usually run alongside Turo at first, so repeat and local renters book you directly while Turo keeps filling the gaps.

How much does Turo take from hosts in 2026?

Turo's US earnings plans pay the host 70%, 80% or 90% of the trip price, with damage responsibility of $250, $1,500 or $2,750 per incident respectively. So Turo keeps 10% to 30% of the trip price: the plan where Turo keeps the most (30%) is the one where you carry the least damage ($250). Check your plan in your Turo account, since terms change.

Is Getaround still available in the US?

No. Getaround ended its US operations in February 2025 and now operates in Europe only. US hosts who listed there need another channel.

Can I use my own booking website and stay on Turo?

Yes, and that's how most hosts start. Fleetwire imports your Turo trips so they block those dates on your own storefront automatically, which prevents double bookings. Build your direct channel from renters you found yourself (repeat customers, local search, social, referrals), and read Turo's terms on guests you met through Turo before contacting them off the platform.

Do I need my own insurance if I rent cars outside Turo?

Yes. Turo's earnings-plan protection only covers Turo trips. For direct rentals you need commercial rental coverage of your own, and you should verify each renter's license and insurance before pickup. Fleetwire checks ID with Stripe Identity and insurance with Axle at checkout.
