Tokens and webhooks

Give each tool exactly the access it needs

Create a token per integration and choose its access: read only for a bookkeeping export, or read plus only the writes a tool needs, such as booking status or blocked dates. Webhooks push events to your endpoint, signed so you can verify they came from Fleetwire, with every delivery in a log you can check.

  • Scoped tokens. Full access, read only, or custom: read plus bookings:write, customers:write, pricing:write or webhooks:write.
  • 12 webhook events. Reservations, status changes, trip start and end, payments and customers.
  • Signed and retried. HMAC-SHA256 signatures, an event ID for deduplication, and up to 5 delivery attempts.

What you can build

Common uses for the API

Bookkeeping and reporting

Pull bookings with totals, amount paid and balance due into your accounting sheet or BI tool, incrementally with updated_since.

Ops dashboards

Show today's pickups and returns, pickup locations and odometer readings on a screen at the lot.

Availability and pricing

Block dates for maintenance, check availability, quote a trip, or set daily prices from your own pricing logic.

Tolls, violations and fees

Add toll and violation charges to the right booking so they're invoiced to the renter, not absorbed by you.

Customer sync

Create and update customers from your CRM, and react to new or changed customers with webhooks.

Real-time alerts

Send booking, payment and trip events to Slack, your phone or your own systems the moment they happen.

Prefer no code? Fleetwire's Zapier app covers new bookings, customers and trip reminders without writing a line.

API questions

How do I authenticate with the Fleetwire API?

Create a token in Fleetwire under Settings → Security → API Tokens and send it as a bearer token (Authorization: Bearer …) on every request. Each token is Full access, Read only, or Custom with the write scopes you pick, and you can delete it from the dashboard at any time.

Which plans include the API?

Read-only tokens work on every paid plan, which covers reporting and bookkeeping tools. Writing data through the API (booking status, blocked dates, customers, pricing, webhooks) needs the Premium plan. Every plan can try the full API during the 14-day trial.

What can the API do?

Read listings, availability, daily pricing, customers, bookings and their charges; quote a trip; update a booking's status; block or unblock dates; set daily prices; create and update customers; add charges such as tolls and fees to a booking; and manage webhook endpoints. It does not create bookings or take payments: renters book through your storefront.

Are there webhooks?

Yes. Register an endpoint and Fleetwire POSTs an event when a booking is created, requested, canceled, updated or changes status, when a trip starts or ends, when a payment succeeds, fails or is refunded, and when a customer is created or updated. Deliveries are signed with HMAC-SHA256 and retried up to 5 times.

What are the rate limits?

200 requests per minute per token, with a few tighter limits on write endpoints. Over the limit you get a 429 response with a Retry-After header.

I run a toll, violation or fee service. Can I connect to many rental companies?

Yes, through the Partner API: one partner key works with every Fleetwire rental company that turns your service on, and charges you send are added to the right rental and invoiced to the renter. Email [email protected] for a partner key and sandbox access.
